The application — our written workmanship warranty

The product is only half of a paint job; how it was prepped and applied is the other half. Nearly every failure we get called to look at traces back to prep that was skipped, not paint that was faulty. We back our own workmanship in writing — if the finish fails because of how we applied it, we come back and make it right. No finger-pointing between the paint store and the crew.

What can quietly void a painting warranty.

A warranty on paper means nothing if the job was set up to fail. These are the most common reasons homeowners lose coverage they thought they had — and the reasons we install the way we do.

Ongoing moisture problems

A coating cannot survive a wall that keeps getting wet. An unresolved leak, failed flashing, rising damp, or a bathroom with no working fan will push paint off the wall no matter how well it was applied.

Substrate failure underneath

If the surface under the paint gives way — rotting wood, crumbling stucco, drywall that was never repaired properly — the finish goes with it. We flag anything like that at the quote rather than coating over it.

Later alterations and damage

Work done afterwards by others, impact damage, or aggressive cleaning with the wrong products can all affect a finish, and none of that is workmanship.

What warranty comes with a Kodiak Painting job?

On top of that, we back our own preparation and application with a written workmanship warranty. You get both set out in writing with your quote, not after the crew has gone.

Why does prep matter so much for the warranty?

Because prep is what nearly every paint failure traces back to. A coating applied over grease, chalking, gloss, or an unprimed repair has nothing to bond to — it can look perfect for a season and then let go in sheets. Washing, sanding, filling, and priming are what make the finish, and the warranty behind it, worth anything.

What can void a painting warranty?

Mostly things happening underneath or after the paint. An unresolved moisture problem — a leak, failed flashing, or a bathroom with no working fan — will push a coating off the wall regardless of how well it went on. So will a substrate that is failing, like rotting wood or crumbling stucco. Later damage, work done by others, and aggressive cleaning with the wrong products are also outside workmanship.

Is the workmanship warranty transferable if I sell?

Transfer terms vary. Tell us your situation and we will explain exactly what carries over to a new owner so there are no surprises at closing.

Does touch-up and repair work carry a warranty?

Yes, we stand behind our repair and touch-up work as well. Coverage on a small targeted repair is naturally different from a full repaint, and we will explain what applies to your specific job before we start.
